July 16-17 - Sarah Dadush participated in the in-person session of the UN Global Compact USA Business & Human Rights Accelerator in Washington, DC. This session brought together companies working to advance their human rights journey, sharing best practices and building an action plan to strengthen human and labor rights across business operations.
July 17 - Ben Rutledge participated in a webinar hosted by the RBH Network by GIZ GmbH and Labor Solutions on a newly published e-learning course on human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) tailored for staff in supplier and manufacturing companies around the globe. This webinar provided an overview of the structure and content of the course, called "HREDD in Action: A Practical Approach for Suppliers," which includes a module on Responsible Contracting prepared in close collaboration with RCP.

June 10 - In partnership with the UN Global Compact Network Denmark and the Federation of Danish Industry, and with support from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RCP team members Sarah Dadush and Daniel Schönfelder presented an advanced workshop on Responsible Contracting. This workshop aimed to enhance understanding and implementation of Responsible Contracting practices to improve human rights and environmental outcomes in global supply chains. June 11 - A BIICL HRDD Forum Members-only event, "Contractual Assurance and Model Clauses for Human Rights Due Diligence". Daniel Schönfelder, Sarah Dadush, and Martijn Scheltema, discussed the European Model Clauses and the legal requirements and practical application of contractual assurance under the CSDDD and explore how model contract clauses can be effectively used to implement HREDD across supply chains. May 12 - An AAFA Members only event, the RCP team presented the "what, why, and how" of responsible contracting, how companies often get their contracts wrong, and how adopting RCP's tools and principles can support better outcomes for people and the planet, as well as closer alignment with new due diligence legislation and trade sanctions regimes. May 15 - AIAG Forced Labor Due Diligence Conference, Chavi Nana and Patrick Miller, along with Chris Johnson, presented a session on "How responsible contracts can help address supply chain challenges". This session explored how contracts and purchase orders shape procurement relationships and address regulatory concerns about forced labor and human rights abuses in the US, EU, and China. May 15 - This year's World Sustainable Contracting Day was focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. Daniel Schönfelder presented two sessions: "Beginner’s guide to responsible contracting" and "Advanced strategies for proactive and relational contracting: a deep dive".
May 21, 9am CET - European Legal Advisor Kristin Tallbo participated as a panellist in a session titled "Buying for good: advancing anti-slavery and social goals through procurement" on day two of the NSW Anti-slavery Forum, a signature event convened by the New South Wales Anti-slavery Commissioner to foster an anti-slavery Community of Purpose. [Chapter / Toolkit] RCP contributed a chapter on Responsible Contracting to the UN Global Compact (UNGC)’s Decent Work Toolkit for Sustainable Procurement, which helps businesses take action to improve labor conditions in global supply chains. The chapter explains the business case for Responsible Contracting, how it supports transparency and compliance with key human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) laws—such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA)—and includes practical tools from our own Toolkit, along with real-world case studies from the apparel, agriculture, and tech sectors.
[Article] Susan Maslow, RCP Senior Legal Advisor, co-authored an article in Business Law Today announcing the public consultation on the Zero Draft of the Responsible Investor Model Clauses (RIMCs). The article introduces the RIMCs, which are designed to operationalize human rights and environmental (HRE) policies in investment documentation, and includes the full draft text along with an overview of the consultation process. [Workshop summary] RCP European Legal Advisor Michaela Streibelt published a summary of her workshop at the 2024 BME Sustainable Procurement Summit in Darmstadt, Germany. The article highlights how responsible contracting can align procurement with business goals while ensuring due diligence under the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). [Report] RCP is featured in Paving the Way for Sustainable Supply Chains: Highlights of the Initiative for Global Solidarity (IGS), the 2025 annual program review of IGS, an initiative supported by GIZ, and which works to build sustainable, resilient supply chains in line with German, EU, and international standards. The report showcases the Supplier Model Contract Clauses 1.0 (SMCs), apparel industry-specific model clauses developed by RCP and in collaboration with the Sustainable Terms of Trade Initiative (STTI) and with the support of IGS, among other partners. [Industry Guidance] The Supplier Model Contract Clauses 1.0 (SMCs) are cited in the OECD’s 2024 Handbook on Due Diligence for Enabling Living Incomes and Living Wages in Agriculture, Garment, and Footwear Supply Chains as an example of how to embed living income policies into companies’ policies and management systems. The Handbook, which provides practical guidance on applying the OECD HRDD framework and aligns with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) concept of a living wage, explains that supply contracts are essential tools for embedding companies' living wage commitments. It also notes that adopting contract clauses that incorporate due diligence responsibilities at every stage of the supply chain reflects shared responsibility for HRDD and promotes a more balanced distribution of costs and implementation.
